Liran I don't think this problem is related to your own. In fact, I am almost sure of it.

The issue is with the network operations guys along with a few other potentially related issues. When I get in the office tomorrow I will check the updates and let you know.

Hey guys. Speaking from iphone so please excuse typos. I done some testing with one of the affected players and removing port blocking in toolbox seemed to resolve the issue.
Instructions for doing so: 1) browse to www.iinet.net.au 2) enter user/pass and click toolbox 3) scroll to account tools for your DSL plan 4) in dropdown select port forwarding 5) disable port forwarding. Apply/save 6) remove power cord from modem 7) wait 5 minutes 8) reconnect and eve should be fixed
Now port blocking from iiNet is for your own protection and it stops common threats from entering your system on regularly used ports. Anyone using this workaround should be using their own firewall / av protection and does so at their own risk
There may be a proper resolution forthcoming however so far it looks like this workaround works.it should also allow our guys to determine the source of the problem.
Anyone affected please confirm / deny if this resolves the problem.
Kind regards Richard

Edited by: EBANK Ricdic on 18/08/2008 03:58:14 As a 'knuckle dragger" who works weekends should I be at the pub instead of trying to help get this problem resolved? I must have missed the memo.

It really is a bit of luck however that myself and Hektor sit near a person who was dealing with a call from someone about this issue. When she asked for help from a senior it was just lucky that we were sitting nearby and our ears *****ed up when we heard "Eve Online" being mentioned.
I know of 3 iiNet staff members who play Eve. I am probably the most religious player though .
On a positive note we did get to install Eve on a test machine (finally had a reason to do so) but I don't like our chances of being allowed to keep it on there
Glad to see the problem is resolved guys

Yep the problem seemed to be affecting a considerable number of applications. Some of the reports I heard were:
Eve Online Age of Conan some crappy bridge site (card game) Ventrillo/TS A few small MMO type games
That's probably why the Network Ops guys managed to pick up on it so quickly. It's uncommon to have so many reports on issues such as these without a problem existing. When we saw this thread and the Age Of Conan one it was fairly clear a problem did exist. |
